We've been awarded Best of Wellington by Capital Times (Best Thai Restaurant 2012 and 2013) and received glowing praise in the media, particularly from reknowned critic David Burton.

Ging is passionate about Thai cooking especially the North-Eastern cuisine, which she is familiar with growing up. She had been employed to cook for thai restaurants prior to opening one of her own with her beloved husband.

She is proud of her PhuThai heritage, an indigeneous group of people with their own culture in North-Eastern Thailand. This gives rise to the name 'Phu Thai Esarn Restaurant'. The word 'Esarn' refers to the North-Eastern part of Thailand.

Esarn food is generally healthy, full of herbs, spices and flavours. Much of the ingredients such as lime leaves, red chillis, shallots, ginger and lemon grass can be found locally at the Hutt, North of Wellington.

Ging uses the freshest of ingredients and the best quality local produce to create each dish for her customers, emphasizing on the blend of ingredients along with the enhancement of natural flavours and authenticity.

The restaurant employs experienced, passionate chefs from the North-Eastern part of Thailand, creating many wonderful original dishes.

A few specialties are Larb chicken, Nam-tok beef, Yum Seafood and Phuthai fish. Fresh spring rolls is also one of the customers favourite dishes and is an exquisitely refreshing appetizer.

Our restaurant has gained a fine reputation among local diners and tourists, thanks to the word of mouth from many of our regulars.

A Night of Inspiration at PhuThai Lanna

Please join us to celebrate the achievements of Hands Across the Water, a charity organisation helping the children of Thailand who were orphaned by the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.

Come and be entertained by some of the wonderful children it supports from the Baan Tharn Namchai Orphanage. You will hear the story of Hands Across the Water, meet the children and be inspired by the people who have given them life and hope again.
